No point before the geometry allows one. Each probe reports a distance with its uncertainty, and the locator draws every place the source could be. One probe is a ring, two are two candidates (one of them off the edge of the view, and counted rather than lost), three narrow it to a region still wider than the precision asked for, and only the fourth gives a fix, drawn with its ± extent. This is EVE Online's probe scanning, where the refusal is the game. Bearings work the same way; fixes that disagree are reported as disagreeing, never averaged into a place nobody measured, and a fix older than its max-age is left out of the answer and counted. Every fix here is computed from one true source at (30, 20).
